Garden Cottage (Dinah Quintal)

Garden Cottage (formerly Dinah Quintal) is one of four self-contained cottages at Trade Winds, a family-owned property set in subtropical gardens on 25 acres of farmland, with views across Norfolk's famous green pastures towards Mount Pitt. Town is a seven-minute drive, and the World Heritage-listed Kingston area, Emily Bay and the golf course are only a few minutes further.

The cottage has two bedrooms, each with its own ensuite and walk-in robe, and sleeps up to five. The nightly price is for one bedroom (the second is closed off). Add the second bedroom when you book if there are three or more of you, or if two of you would like a bedroom each. Bedroom 1 has a king bed or two extra-long singles; bedroom 2 has a king bed and a single, or two extra-long singles and a single. Both bedrooms open onto the full-length verandah, with wheelchair and walker access from the bedrooms and living area. Ceiling fans keep you cool, and in winter the gas heater warms the lounge.

Garden Cottage is our accessible cottage. If you need its accessible set-up, there is a one-off fee of $250 for your stay, covering the equipment and extra cleaning. It applies only when you need accessibility; please add it when you book and let us know what you need. With the accessible set-up you can also upgrade your car to a large SUV for $25 a day.

The full-sized kitchen has granite benches, a 4-burner cooktop, gas oven, dishwasher, microwave and full fridge/freezer. There's a laundry with washing machine, iron and ironing board, a barbecue and outdoor seating on the verandah, and Wi-Fi.

Your stay includes an airport meet and greet, a hire car for the length of your stay, and a welcome hamper of fresh Trade Winds produce. The car is a small automatic for a one-bedroom booking, a mid-size SUV for two bedrooms, and a large SUV for five guests; upgrades are available on request. Beach towels, picnic baskets, snorkelling gear and birdwatching chairs are there for you to use.

A fifth guest is $35 per night. Infants sleeping in a cot stay free; the cot goes in a parent's bedroom, not the second bedroom unless both bedrooms are booked. Minimum stay is three nights.

Dinah Quintal was the daughter of John Adams, the last surviving mutineer from the Bounty, and his Tahitian wife Vahineatua. She married Edward Quintal, raised five children, and was one of the elders who arrived on Norfolk Island in 1856.
